Gulapa was established by PT Berkat Petani Indonesia. The company name comes from our mission to be a blessing and to increase the life standard of local farmers in Banyumas, Central Java by partnering up with them and sooner or later giving back to society.

IKA DEWI & MARCELO RICARDO L
FOUNDER & CO FOUNDER
Ika Dewi and Marcelo Ricardo Lewerissa, founders of GULAPA, both graduated from a tourism institute and built their careers in the travel industry. In 2009, they co-founded JOY Tour and Travel, building a successful business together. When the pandemic disrupted tourism in 2020, they kept their travel agency running while exploring new business opportunities. In 2021, they discovered the potential of coconut sugar in Purwokerto, Central Java. As they engaged with local farmers, they were deeply moved by their stories—many faced financial instability despite producing high-quality coconut sugar. Wanting to create a positive impact, they founded Berkat Petani Indonesia in July 2021 and launched the GULAPA brand, aiming to provide fair opportunities for farmers while promoting organic and sustainable products globally. Facing financial challenges, Ika and Marcelo persevered by managing other commitments while continuing preparations for their factory and farming network, determined to build a business that could uplift farmer communities.
By early 2022, they were ready to introduce GULAPA internationally but struggled to find buyers. Determined to showcase their products, they participated in their first trade fair, BIOFACH, with their own booth after finding the INDONESIA Pavilion already full. Their persistence paid off, as they secured their first customer from Spain. Their commitment to sustainability and ethical sourcing resonated with international buyers, leading to increased recognition. In 2023, GULAPA obtained organic certification and expanded its presence at European trade fairs like ANUGA. Their efforts have resulted in partnerships with several European and American companies, reinforcing their mission to support farmers and establish GULAPA as a trusted name in sustainable coconut sugar.

DAVE FEDERICO PRASETIO
CO-FOUNDER
Dave Federico Prasetio, Co-Founder of GULAPA, graduated in 2020 with a background in culinary business and initially started his own catering business. In 2021, he joined GULAPA, invited by Ika and Marcelo to help develop the company.
At GULAPA, Dave oversees operations, including production, quality control, and farmer partnerships. With a strong passion for the F&B industry and nature, he enjoys working closely with farmers, building strong relationships, and understanding their culture and challenges. He sees coconut sugar as a promising industry with vast potential for innovation and sustainable development.
Dave is deeply involved in ensuring product quality, maintaining sustainable farming practices, and meeting farmers’ needs. He also represents GULAPA at international trade fairs, providing insights into operations and quality control while showcasing the company’s commitment to sustainability.
